A Shot Across the Bow

Digital Sketch by Robin King

Today I’m scheduled to get my 1st COVID shot. It was a last-minute opening, probably someone’s cancellation. Whatever caused it I’m grateful for the opportunity.

But I don’t do “last-minute” very well. Suddenly my day is upended and I’m spinning in a maelstrom of worry. What if this? What if that? What if the tech who pokes a hole in my arm sneezes at that particular moment and shreds an artery? What if there’s an earthquake and the sharp jabs my eye instead? What if…

::sigh:: It’ll be fine. I’ll be back here later, happy to be manufacturing new antibodies. See you then!

  1. Hang in there, my friend Robin. You’ll do fine. I will say, though, after I had my first shot and was waiting the 15-minutes, I did witness a disabled senior citizen – operating an electric wheel chair, of sorts – lose control and crash into a makeshift dividing wall where a nurse was administering the shot for someone. The walls fell over, almost landing on the ‘patient’, but I don’t think there were any other repercussions 😂🤪🤗

            1. Hi, Phil!! Thank you for asking!! Fine so far. I was freaked out initially bec the car needs gas & I was afraid I’d run out on my way to the appointment. Then my imagination took over & I worried about EVERYTHING. But all went well, got home OK. LOL – I went to the grocery store pharmacy bec that was where I found an open appointment, so, on the way out, I bought a box of chocolate mint cookies to celebrate the occasion. Silly, I guess, but there it is. Thank you again!! 🥰👋

  2. :) I hope all is well and you’re feeling no side effects. I was a little tired after my shots, and my arm was very sore. Minor inconveniences though. I’m glad I was able to do something to help stop the spread of this horrible virus. I got my shots not so much for myself as for the people around me. With the vaccinations, I’m now able to visit my sister in her retirement community again. It’s a good thing. Thanks for doing your part.

    1. Thank you, Tiffany!! I felt like I did with bad flu but most of that dissipated overnight. Today I’m just a little worn out. My arm still feels crummy. Totally worth it, tho! 🤗👋
